Education
Residents who live in The Estates of McKinney are served by the highly sought-after McKinney Independent School District (MISD), one of the best in the state of Texas. MISD has a long-standing reputation for educational excellence, and the district is continually recognized at both the state and national levels. The district serves 24,500 students in 20 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, two alternative campuses, and one early education center. The district proudly holds a 98.1% on-time graduation rate, compared to a statewide rate of 89.1%. It also ranks above average in college readiness scores and has had 10 Region 10 Teachers of the Year, more than any other school district in the area.
TOP-RATED, HIGHLY ACCLAIMED SCHOOLS
All three MISD high schools have been ranked in the top 5% of the nation’s high schools, according to U.S. News & World Report. The district outperforms the region and state in all subjects and grade levels as measured by STAAR testing assessments. MISD is one of only 433 school districts in the U.S. and Canada and one of only 22 school districts in Texas named to the 7th annual College Board AP District Honor Roll for increasing student enrollment in Advanced Placement (AP) courses while also increasing scores on AP exams.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
In 2021, the MISD was named as one of NAMM’s Best Communities for Music Education for the 5th consecutive year. It also is the only district in Texas to have TMEA Honor Choir at every level and has one of the most distinguished fine arts programs in Texas. MISD students are offered almost every extracurricular activity you can imagine – including music and theater programs, sports and cheerleading, robotics and computing, to leadership-building programs.
